    >>>THE NYE RUST IS SOLD OUT, BUT MORE WEEN PRINTS ARE NOW: HERE

NOWhere Limited is pleased to offer a very limited edition of WEEN (New Years Eve @ The Fillmore, Denver, CO) by Jermaine Rogers printed on rust colored gallery stock paper. Jermaine created this image for the band Ween’s New Year’s Eve 2012 show at The Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, Colorado. The “Rust” edition, limited to just 10 signed and numbered pieces measures approximately 30 x 22 inches and is available only through NOWhere Limited. (Please note the edition on white paper is pictured here.)

The artist says of this image: “In the land of the gods, all is love. They mingle and they fraternize and they bask in the divine glow of each others company. Each of them, in turn, has lorded over the masses of mortal men, collected the spoils of humanity, and have stoked the fires of love and war. Each of them know that there is no ‘reality’, only perception. They collectively feed from the cultural umbilical cord, which in turn binds them to one another. They are one being, donning different masks. So yeah… their ’sheep’ need to relax.”

We’ve also added a few other recent posters and print editions by Jermaine Rogers to our inventory including:
‘Stairway To Heaven’ Artist’s Proof and Foil editions, ‘USED’ Commemorative Edition Artist’s Proof, Soundgarden (Fairfax, VA) plus a variety of handbills (smaller prints.)

ABOUT THE IMAGE:
According to the artist:

“Now We Hunt Hippopotamus is a convergence of disparate influences, specifically including The Hippopotamus Hunt by Rubens (one of my favorite paintings by one of my favorite painters), Indian firecracker graphics (which I discovered traveling in India in 2005, a trip that completely exploded my color palette), and the David Lynch film Wild At Heart (the title of this piece comes from torrid moment when Isabella Rossellini stares down the barrel of her pistol pointed at the camera shouting ‘Now We Hunt Buffalo!’) I liked the idea of telling a humanity versus nature story in which the human element is represented by miniature severed heads, clearly overwhelmed by the behemoth brute force of the animals raging around the composition.”

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Aaron Johnson is a painter based in Brooklyn. His reverse-painted acrylic-polymer-peel paintings inhabit the realms between the erotic-catastrophic/ecstatic-psychotic/comic-tragic, fusing diverse painting vocabularies into his own distinctive breed of Americana-grotesque, all rendered obsessively with tender brutality. Roberta Smith in The New York Times describes his works as “visceral, beautiful and flamboyantly timely, which is saying a lot.” Johnson received his MFA from Hunter College, NY in 2005. His work has been exhibited internationally at such venues as Stux Gallery, New York; Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art, NY; Gallery Poulsen, Copenhagen; Gallery Brandstrup, Oslo; The Running Horse Contemporary Art Space, Beirut; and Kunsthalle Exnergrasse (Vienna). Johnson’s exhibitions have been reviewed in many publications including Modern Painters, Art News, Beautiful Decay, Kunst International, The Village Voice, and The New York Times. In 2007 he was awarded a Space Program grant from The Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation, and is MacDowell Colony Fellow for 2012. His work is in the permanent collections of The Weisman Foundation and The Museum of Modern Art.

Edward Gorey - The Black Doll
Edward Gorey, The Black Doll, 13 inches tall, edition of 2000.
Buy this now.

ABOUT THE PIECE:
A life-long friend of Edward Gorey’s made The Black Doll for him in 1942. Gorey visited her while she was making it, and upon seeing it insisted on keeping it in it’s unfinished state, lacking a face, arms and clothing. In spite of her objection, Gorey prevailed. It may be the first recorded instance of Gorey’s enduring dedication to engaging the imagination. The incomplete Black Doll has remained a recurring enigma for almost 70 years appearing in many of Gorey’s books and drawings as well as being the subject of his silent screenplay. This is the first time The Black Doll has been produced for Edward Gorey’s devoted following. In its newest incarnation, The Black Doll returns as an objet d’art. Necessaries Toy Foundation in conjunction with the Edward Gorey Charitable Trust will release The Black Doll in a limited edition of 2000. Measuring 13″ – it is larger than the original, which measured roughly 7″. The minimally yet artfully designed box boasts on the back, an account of the original doll’s history. The whole package is a sublime tribute to a most beloved artist. As always, Necessaries produces toys in such a way that elevates them from simple limited edition figures to endearing artifacts. -Annie Owens/Hi-fructose

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

A truly prodigious and original artist, Edward St. John Gorey (1925-2000), gave to the world over one hundred works, including The Gashlycrumb Tinies, The Doubtful Guest and The Wuggly Ump; prize-winning set and costume designs for innumerable theater productions from Cape Cod to Broadway; a remarkable number of illustrations in publications such as The New Yorker and The New York Times, and in books by a wide array of authors from Charles Dickens to Edward Lear, Samuel Beckett, John Updike, Virginia Woolf, H.G. Wells, Florence Heide and many others. His well known animated credits for the PBS Mystery series have introduced him to millions of television viewers. Gorey’s masterful pen and ink illustrations and his ironic, offbeat humor have brought him critical acclaim and an avid following throughout the world.
