It’s been nearly four years since Cindy Sherman has exhibited new work. The current show at Metro Pictures is proof that it has been worth the wait.
For more than thirty years Cindy Sherman has been fooling the camera and mystifying her audience. The work is inherently fun, like “playing dress up” taken to the extreme. Sherman worked alone behind the camera and in front of a green screen to create these latest stills.
Conceptually, these photographs deal with ideas of aging and image of self. There is always a where’s Waldo sensation to the self portraits that Sherman produces. If you look hard enough you may just find residue of Cindy left in these images.
