A solo exhibit from Gunilla Klingberg is currently on view at Bonniers Konsthall in Stockholm. The exhibit is part of the guest artist program hosted annually at the museum.
Gunilla Klingberg transforms artifacts found in common culture into sublime artworks covering a wide array of media. “Supernova – Interior Collapse” (above) was created specifically for the exhibit. The sculpture is made from floor coverings and other items found at IKEA. The piece feels like a room that has imploded into the shape of a star. This new form along with the title leads the viewer to believe that the work could go Nova at any moment.
Alongside newer works are installations dating back more than a decade that have been reinvented for display at the Konsthall. “Seven Eleven Twist” (above) from 1997 is a landmark design that sparked her methodology. The deterioration of logos into pattern has been a primary force in Klingberg’s work.
