The time has arrived for the Winter invitational group show at the Black & White Gallery in Chelsea. Nine artists are included in “imMaterial” an exhibit of artworks made from clothing.
The pieces are thematically different but share a common thread. The medium is the message in this show. “Sometime Last January I Had Awoken In the Morning with My Hand Up”, an exceptional effort from Adam Niklewicz (above) will be on view.
Some of the creations were rendered as installations like the 1,800 pound wall of second hand clothing by Derick Melander (above). There are also smaller objects presented as traditional sculpture like “Fur Skull” (below) from Jason Clay Lewis.
Strong artworks from a variety of sources round out this excellent exhibit. The invitational includes pieces by Orly Cogan, Kaoru Hirano, Tamara Kostianovsky, Kristian Kozul, Shimon Okshteyn and Jean Shin.
