Josef Schulz is a Polish artist working in large scale photographs. “Form” is the current show at Yossi Milo Gallery and his first solo exhibition in the U.S.
Schulz captures the initial imagery with a large format camera and then begins digital manipulation. Signs, logos, dirt and all other distinguishing features are removed from the industrial buildings. In most cases necessary architectural elements like doors and windows have been abolished from the structures.
Denying the utility of the structures transmutes the architecture into sculptural forms devoid of scale and purpose. The landscape would be far more exciting if builders could adopt ideas from these reductive constructions.
