In little more than a week the hyper-realistic paintings of Kim Sung Jin and Kate Brinkworth will be brandished at Alon Zakaim Fine Art. “Guilty Pleasures” is made up of large scale oil paintings exhibiting hypertrophic vice. Dice befall architecture and spittle runs like rivers at these dimensions.
The works appear to have commenced from photographic source material. This is considered a villainous technique frowned on by purists dating back to a time when it was feared that photography was sure to replace painting. It may conceivably be just another guilty pleasure. Antiquated trepidations aside, the results are striking.
