In two weeks, “The World We Live In”, new paintings by Todd Schorr opens at Merry Karnowsky in Los Angeles. The opening reception is hosted by actor David Arquette with a portion of sales headed to Feeding America.
Schorr’s work is a fluid blend of old technique and new ideas. If you haven’t had the opportunity to examine his paintings bust off the couch and head to the gallery.
Todd Schorr claims to be involved in “Cartoon Realism”. It is a paradoxical term that finds sense in our hyper media culture. Since the nascence of television our homes have welcomed a variety of unreal characters. Acceptance and even belief in these avatars play a vital role in contemporary social interaction. Children advance to adulthood learning important lessons from these up to the minute myths. All notions of reality obscure when viewed as the accumulation of these experiences.
